HOURS is the result of two female artists spending 6 weeks together, physically next to each other in two pods, having tea and talks, sharing stories of a lifetime with each other, making piece by piece.

Chantel Matthews is a conceptual artist, writer and curator creating sculptural moments inspired by the ‘everyday’ whilst exploring her own subjectivity as a woman, mother, artist and wahine Māori. She holds space for the female, encourages to work together and to share experiences. She is a connector.

Lisa Geue is a multidisciplinary artist currently working with clay, creating vessels inspired by her ancient ancestors, reclaiming her ancient European heritage, while still bringing down emotional walls and embracing weibliche independence.

HOURS is the collaboration of RICE, a project by Chantel Matthews focusing on slowing down through repetitive labour - making rice - while inviting people for a kōrero with a cup of tea and Lisa Geue’s clay work focusing on the archetypal symbolism and ritualistic meaning of the ‘vessel’.
